Description
The pheasant first arrived in Europe in the mid-16th century, initially not as game, but as an exotic ornamental bird gracing the manicured grounds of stately homes and country estates. Only later did it become an established feature of small game and driven shoots, where its elegant appearance and powerful flight continue to be admired to this day.
The pocket square – also known as a pochette – has a long and storied heritage. Its name derives from the French »poche«, meaning »pocket«, as it was originally carried discreetly in a breast pocket as a handkerchief. While once serving a purely practical purpose, it was elevated to the status of a decorative accessory by King Richard II of England, swiftly becoming a subtle mark of cultivated refinement. Particularly during the Biedermeier period around 1830, the colourful square became part of elegant riding attire, before establishing itself from 1860 onwards as an indispensable emblem of gentlemanly style.
Today, a well-chosen pocket square completes any sophisticated ensemble, making a subtle yet unmistakable statement of taste and individuality. Whether neatly folded, casually draped or artfully arranged, the »Pheasant« Pocket Square lends every occasion a touch of British elegance and field sport tradition.
