Description
The New Western Dry Gin is distilled in Cape Town by master distiller Keegan Cook in small batches using copper pot stills. The founders place great emphasis on ensuring that each batch remains unique and individual in flavour through this artisanal process.
The basis of the distinctive Blue Gin is a carefully selected combination of premium botanicals and pure base spirit. Juniper berries, the classic foundation of every gin, are complemented by fresh citrus notes of lime and grapefruit, as well as aromatic plants such as coriander seeds and angelica root. Triple distillation in traditional copper stills results in a particularly pure and intense aroma.
For the characteristic blue colour, an extract from dried petals of the butterfly pea flower (Clitoria ternatea) is added, which contributes not only colour but also a subtle floral note and gentle freshness. The gin is then matured in special vessels to ensure a balanced harmony of complexity and smoothness.
Kaiza Blue Gin captivates with its intense, shimmering blue hue, which gives it a distinctive and striking appearance. On the nose, fresh juniper notes unfold, harmoniously joined by citrus accents of lime and grapefruit. The bouquet is further enhanced by delicate floral nuances of lavender and violet. On the palate, the gin is rounded and multi-layered, with a refreshing spice, a hint of sweet spice and a touch of minerality. Fresh notes of blueberry, dragon fruit and elderflower create a fruity-berry taste experience. The finish is soft, long-lasting and invigorates the senses, leaving a lasting impression.
What sets New Western Dry Gin apart: unlike London Dry Gin, where the timing of adding botanicals is strictly regulated, New Western Dry Gin gives the distiller greater creative freedom. The number of distillations is also not fixed. It is not sweetened – its character derives entirely from the botanicals used. Here, juniper does not dominate; instead, it is the balanced interplay of all ingredients that allows complex flavour profiles to develop.
A special feature of Kaiza 5 Blue Gin is its natural colour change: when it comes into contact with acid, such as tonic water or lemon juice, the shade shifts from deep blue to violet. This effect is caused by the natural plant pigments of the butterfly pea flower.
It is best enjoyed in a copa glass over ice, with high-quality tonic water, fresh lime slices and a sprig of rosemary. This combination accentuates the fruity and floral notes.
